Tadah Vinties Sew Along Day 1

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to Day 1 of the Vinties Sew Along!

Today we will be covering steps 1-8

Join in at any time you like and post all your questions or comments in this thread. You can also join in via our Facebook Group

PS: IF YOU DONT HAVE THE PATTERN AND WANT TO JOIN IN USE THE CODE SEWMESOMEOVERALLS ON THE WEBSITE TO BUY THE PATTERN AT A DISCOUNT

Step 1 - prepare your straps but pressing in the two long ends and 1 short end

The next couple of steps to Miter the corners are totally optional but do give your corners a nice crisp, professional look

To miter your corner you'll need to fold the corner in and press

Then fold in the original 1/2" fold on the top and sides and press them well
If you've used the correct 1/2" folds it should all line up nicely
Step 2 - Then fold in half and press and repeat for the other side
Step 3 is optional for those of you adding ruffles - Make sure you mark your ruffle notches (if you're adding ruffles)
Fold your ruffles in half and press them (wrong sides together)
Sew a gathering stitch on your ruffles - as you can see I have a little helper tonight
So then unfold your strap and line up your ruffle at the notches. The ruffle should be further to the back (raw ends)
Pull your gathers to fit and then sew it down
Sew the ruffle down
Step 4 is for ruffles and no ruffle options - Then fold the strap back up and pin or glue it well and we will topstitch it closed
TIP: If you want to add some lace in, now would be a good time to pin it all in before you top stitch down the strap
Once you've done them both you should have two mirrored straps ready to go. If you weren't adding ruffles you'd just miss the ruffle step and follow all the other steps
Step 5 - fold the long edge of your snap panels up and press them well
Step 6 is to iron your interfacing on your front and one of your back panels.
Step 7 - press up the long edge of the non interfaced back piece and one long edge of the front piece 1/2"
Note: if you're using directional fabric that fold will be on the inside - not visible.
No automatic alt text available.
Step 8 is to finish the arms - I'm using bias
That's it from me tonight, I'll see you tomorrow evening for steps 9-12
Happy Sewing
