Using bias tape to finish an edge

This is just a quick photo tutorial to show you how to use 12mm SINGLE FOLD bias tape to finish an edge.

You can purchase bias tape HERE.

1. First lay your main fabric down with right side UP. Place your bias tape on top with right side DOWN.

Unfold one side of the bias tape and place it up against the raw edge of your fabric.

Pin in place.

2. Sew along the fold that is closest to the edge

3. Fold bias tape back over the seam that you have just sewn.

4. Fold bias tape over to the wrong side of the fabric. The seam that you have just sewn should be on the edge. Pin in place.

5. Sew along the edge of the bias tape (as close as you can to the edge).

This is how it should look from the RIGHT SIDE of the fabric.

This is how it should look from the WRONG SIDE of the fabric.

I do this way but the opposite, so you end up with a nice border of bias tape. I often pick a colour in the item I am making and use that as the border. It really does give the item you are making a boost.
